Family Time

Family Time

Hello All!

It’s been a while!  Have you missed me?

The past few weeks have been all about family time — which mean I was “unplugged”.  Starting in late April, I had to prep the house to receive visitors and prep myself for playing hostess.  Does any one else feel pressure when playing hostess? I would have to say that my anxiety was at about a 6 the whole time they were here… with peaks at 8 or 9 but no lower than 6.

My in-laws came for a week, but it’ll take me a week to feel like everything is back to normal.  I fret and fret — and get myself all in a tizzy — but then once they’ve gone I just feel… still.

So many activities!

Hubby and I plan at least one activity per day of my in-law’s visit.  We tried to find things that would (a) interest us, (b) fit into our budgets, and (c) fit around hubby’s work schedule.  I was off because of semester breaks, but hubby had to do a mix of days off and working full or half days.  Here’s a list, in no particular order, of where we went/what we did during their visit:

  • Flea market
  • Farmers market
  • Berry picking x 2
  • Pie making
  • Jam Making (20 jars)
  • Auctions
  • Seagrove Pottery tour
  • Blacksmith shop
  • Skeet Shooting
  • Netflix Movie Watching!
  • Picnics outside!  Several times!
  • Church (of course)
  • Thrift Shop Tours
  • Went for the best local Pizza
  • Helped my Father-in-law update his phone (from a flip phone to an Iphone 7 Plus!)
  • Moved a mini fridge into my office at work
  • Did paperwork and prepped for the next semester at my office
  • Went to a 50’s style diner
  • Had Carolina BBQ

And I know I’m forgetting things, but we did SO MUCH!  It was really really fun though!

In-Laws are nicer!

My in-laws are nicer and easier to get along with than my Korean Mom… She needs to constantly be impressed (by impeccable cleanliness and incessant groveling).  It’s so different from hanging with my in-laws.  I’m sure some of you reading aren’t as lucky as I am.  Maybe you’ll even start shaking your head when you read this next part — but I really love my in-laws and am so blessed to spend time with them.

We get along so well!

A few years back, hubby and I found ourselves with a month off.  A solid month — during the holiday season.  So we spent four weeks hanging with my in-laws.  Four weeks!  Time flew!

The same thing happened with this trip.  Before I knew it, the week was over…

Don’t get me wrong, I like having my house back to the way it was (it’s small so having guests makes it immediately feel smaller).  I like being able to be a bit selfish with my time and since I’m on break still, a bit lazy as well.  I also like that hubby and I can wear whatever we want at home (usually jammies all the time) without being worried about heading out for an adventure!  But I don’t like that we’re reminded of how far away we are from all of our family.  Whenever a visit ends, that’s exactly how we feel; far away.  It’s sad… but I think it hits hubby a bit harder than it hits me.  My own family isn’t that close — but I do feel that closeness with his family.  Weird, right?

How have you been since my last post??
