Treats from Labor Day Weekend!

Treats from Labor Day Weekend!

This week, we took advantage of the long weekend we’d have for housework — and used Saturday as a full on Mega-Treat Day!

We each picked things we wanted to do or eat and planned from there.

Hubby’s choice – Workout of the Day

Hubby wanted to do a major workout first thing, so we started our Saturday at the gym.  He chose the workout called Fight Gone Bad — and it kicked our butts

Fight Gone Bad!

Three rounds of:
Wall-ball, 20 pound ball, 10 ft target (Reps)
Sumo deadlift high-pull, 75 pounds (Reps)
Box Jump, 20″ box (Reps)
Push-press, 75 pounds (Reps)
Row (Calories)

In this workout you move from each of five stations after a minute. The clock does not reset or stop between exercises. This is a five-minute round from which a one-minute break is allowed before repeating. On call of “rotate”, the athletes must move to next station immediately for best score. One point is given for each rep, except on the rower where each calorie is one point.

My score was 168 and hubby was 159 — we were both super tired and sweaty at the end of it.  I think there’s even a photo of me face down on the ground… Yep.

My Choice – Lunch

I chose my favorite local restaurant — where they house make everything with locally source ingredients.

My permanent order:  Chicken tacos with house made guacamole and sour cream — my soul was super happy!

I also had a split side option of half fries and half salad.  This place shreds beets and carrots on top and then mixes it all up with homemade blue cheese dressing.  It’s the only blue cheese dressing I like!

For lunch dessert, hubby and I split chocolate almond pie with almond gelato!  Then we grabbed a quick Starbucks coffee and hit the road for the next activity.

Mutual Choice — Bookstore!

We both love browsing a good bookstore.  Sadly, with the rise and popularity of digital readers and online e-books/libraries, actual bookstores are few and far between.  We decided to find and hit up a Barnes and Noble and spent a good hour browsing.

I found two books that were each under $20, so I used some mad money to spoil myself.  Hubby was overwhelmed with options and decided to sit and think before purchasing.  He’s planning another trip, I can feel it.

My choice — Movie!

Later that day, we watched Atomic Blonde at the dollar movie theater (tickets were actually $2 a piece but they have $1.50 pop and pop corn!)  So thrifty!

Hubby’s Choice — Korean food for dinner!

Then we finished our treat day with KOREAN FOOD at our favorite Korean restaurant.  I love this restaurant and the one waitress who always recognizes me as “half korean” and then brings out the special “for koreans only” banchan.

This time it was “grandma’s own” peppers, that she hand picked from her garden, and a hot pepper paste.  It so reminded me of my mom, since my mom also grows these peppers in her garden.  They are SO good and taste like green peppers — unless you get a “hot one” and then it tastes like fire and death lava.

Grow up — my mom would take a bite out of each pepper before letting us have them, in this way warning us if it’s hot or not.  Usually, a hot one meant she’d finish it and a mild/sweet one was give up to us kids.

So yummy!
