Tuesday’s treats — 10/3/17

Tuesday’s treats — 10/3/17

How is it already October? Does anyone else feel ambushed by Fall? I just know that as soon as I start writing “10” for the month, I’ll look up and Christmas will be here.  Going to VOW to make the most of my October and this whole Fall season before it’s too late!  As much as I love winter and all the family fun that holidays bring, I just don’t want to rush it. This week’s treats are geared totally…

Tuesday’s treats! 9/19/17

Tuesday’s treats! 9/19/17

Pumpkins, Pumpkins– everywhere! This week’s treats are somewhat pumpkin themed, but not intentionally.  I’m trying to embrace fall even though the temperature outside says it’s still very much summer.  Can’t let 90 degree weather stop me from enjoying all things pumpkin spice! First treat is for my house — a new tablecloth. It’s a small investment (this was a $3 Walmart special!), but it certainly does the job of bringing the “fall feel” into my kitchen.   Pumpkin Muffins! Once…

Taco Tuesday is alive and well!!

Taco Tuesday is alive and well!!

Taco Tuesday! …is just an excuse for me to eat more Mexican food.  As I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, I LOVE Mexican food — especially tacos and guacamole.  SO GOOD!   As I write this, I have some chicken breasts and a can of red enchilada sauce cooking away in the crock pot.  Once the chicken is cooked, I’ll shred the meat and use it as the taco meat – instead of the usual ground turkey or ground beef.  …

Tuesday’s Treats 8/22/17

Tuesday’s Treats 8/22/17

Who doesn’t love treats??   To help hubby and I reach our health goals — we’ve been trying to refocus our eating patterns.  While we aren’t calling this a “diet” — we are purposefully avoiding most sweet treats and junk food.  To keep our sanity, we’re allowing ourselves a “treat day” on Saturday evenings at supper time.  That way, if we have a specific craving throughout the week for a treat, we can schedule it and get it on the…

Macros while on Vacay?

Macros while on Vacay?

Vacations tend to go one of two ways with me.  I’m either hypervigilant with my eating — having a plan, taking time to track calories, and making sure to have healthy alternatives on hand wherever I am.  OR I’m wild and free.  In the latter case, I eat what I want to eat, when I want to eat, until I feel like I’ve had enough.  Some would call these types of days “cheat days” — but I call them “refuel”…

Avoiding the Grocery Store

Avoiding the Grocery Store

I’ll admit it — I hate going to the grocery store.  It’s a hugely stressful event for me, but I do it to myself. I’ll wait and wait and wait before going to the grocery store — even when it means meals are a patchwork of whatever is left in the house (plain toast with a side of cottage cheese, leftover spaghetti sauce on rice, etc…).  This of course means that the house is totally empty of anything edible by…

IIFYM – Flexible Dieting

IIFYM – Flexible Dieting

Ever since training for my marathon, I’ve really felt the need to fuel my body for my goals.  In the past, I’ve focused on the scale and on points (weight watchers).  This left me pretty much obsessed with food — when will I eat next?  How much can I eat?  What recipes/foods/products let me eat the most for the fewest points?  Basically, food was all I thought about.  I started gaming the system — tweaking the serving size until my…

The Food Pusher

The Food Pusher

I have a Korean Mom story for you today!  It’s about my very own Korean Mom and how her relationship to food has shaped who I am today.   Push and Pull Growing up, food wasn’t consistent.  My folks were young and broke, with three kiddos to feed, so they used whatever they had to scrape by.  Basically, this meant that we ate simply for the most part — rice and side dishes, hot dogs and macaroni w/ cheese, and…

Cheat Day? Or no Cheat Day?

Cheat Day? Or no Cheat Day?

Current Eating Moods After meeting with a nutritionist and giving her the log in information to MyFitnessPal (the calorie tracker I use daily) — I feel more accountable for what I’m eating on a day to day basis.  It’s only been about a month, but I’ve started to see myself “normalize” into a few routines/set meals. For breakfast, I’ve been loving on Eggs.  I’ll hard boil a bunch one day, then bring 2 at a time with me for quick…
