Thursday Things — I forgot to take pictures

Thursday Things — I forgot to take pictures

I forgot to take pictures! I can’t believe it!  Hubby and I completed the pumpkin carving challenge, but I don’t have any pictures!  We carved at a friend’s house and left them on their porch for decorations, so we have nothing to show for all our hard work. 🙁 It was super fun though — I carved up my side of the pumpkin in 3 minutes while hubby took hours and hours.  His side is way more detailed and perfect…

Validation? I was reading blogs this week and was struck by Runs For Cookie’s Mental Health Monday post.  In it, she discusses how validation will get you everywhere in life.  She even had this quote from Steven Covey, “Most People do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.”   She provided an example of when someone came up to her and told her they were nervous.  A non-validating response would be something dismissive…

Procrasti-nasty

Procrasti-nasty

At the eve of my next family vacay, I find myself cursing my past lazy self for not getting on top of the ToDo list!! In order to counter act my procrastination, I'll be running around like a chicken with its head cut off for the duration of the day and part of tomorrow. This has happened before and I think there are pros and cons to be a little procrasti-nasty. Pro- I'm super efficient when up against a time…

So Embarrassed — I want to die

So Embarrassed — I want to die

The other day, some of our friends were getting together to have a big fun day!  Lunch, rock climbing, bowling, movies, dinner, ice cream, donuts,… everything fun!   While rock climbing, one friend fell and really hurt her leg.  We scrapped our plans so that she could be taken to urgent care.  Turns out, our girl broke both bones in her leg!! HOW AWFUL!  She was totally tough though — and only ended up getting upset when she realized she…

Fear of Flying!

Fear of Flying!

As a half korean, I’m very good at worrying.  It’s a time honored tradition that was passed down to me from my Korean Mom.  She’s the champ of worrying and her strategies include (1) waves of worry, increasing over time, (2) imagining scenarios where all new levels of worrying can by applied, and (3) being full on crazy faced — with irrational and completely unrealistic worries. In honor of my flight today, and my worry-crazy Korean Mom,  I have compiled…

Water baby

Water baby

My mom used to call us all that — Water babies — we because we loved playing in the water.  Whether it was getting our feet wet in a puddle, splashing around in the sprinklers, or swimming in the lake/pool — we loved the water. There was a summer when I wasn’t very old, where my mom got us kiddos an inflatable rectangular pool.  She wouldn’t fill it up all the way, so it was really more of a splash…

Family Time

Family Time

Hello All! It’s been a while!  Have you missed me?   The past few weeks have been all about family time — which mean I was “unplugged”.  Starting in late April, I had to prep the house to receive visitors and prep myself for playing hostess.  Does any one else feel pressure when playing hostess? I would have to say that my anxiety was at about a 6 the whole time they were here… with peaks at 8 or 9 but…

The Food Pusher

The Food Pusher

I have a Korean Mom story for you today!  It’s about my very own Korean Mom and how her relationship to food has shaped who I am today.   Push and Pull Growing up, food wasn’t consistent.  My folks were young and broke, with three kiddos to feed, so they used whatever they had to scrape by.  Basically, this meant that we ate simply for the most part — rice and side dishes, hot dogs and macaroni w/ cheese, and…

Hobbies?

Hobbies?

Hubby told me that I need to find a new hobby.   What??   Apparently obsessing about running (and health and working out) doesn’t count as a “hobby” because it isn’t balanced.  And this blog doesn’t count either… What??   In the past, I have dabbled in other hobbies — knitting, crocheting, sketching, etc… More creative or “frivolous” hobbies that were “just for fun”.  Hubby thinks that since I set goals for myself in my running and in my writing…

Tuesday’s Treats!!

Tuesday’s Treats!!

This time of year is all about Back to School!  As an educator, it’s all about PLAN PLAN PLAN!!! Without adequate prep work, done in advance, the whole term/semester/year will feel like a giant game of catch up.  Too many things come at teachers all at once, so we have to use our summers to plan as far in advance as possible to free us up for this onslaught of stuff to do. I’m a big planner.  I love making…
