Marathon Monday — It’s my Runniversary!

Marathon Monday — It’s my Runniversary!

That’s right — today marks my 1 year Marathon Runniversary!   Exactly one year ago today, I ran my first ever full marathon!!  I finished dead last and the race organizers would clean up the course as I passed!  *How embarrassing!* So many early mornings, hot runs, long runs, and exhausted rest days…   So many things went wrong: Streets were flooded due to Hurricane Matthew so the course was changed and re certified last minute Volunteer Teenagers that were…

Labor Day Monday!

Labor Day Monday!

Running update Last week, I decided to get my running shoes no and start training.  I ended up tweaking a Couch to 5K workout… which is my go to running plan when I’ve taken time off.  It just works. Scheduled:  5 min walk/warm up, then 8x 1min run, 90sec recover.  Then a cool down. I decided to take those 1 minutes runs and turn them into sprints!  I went as fast as I could go for a few of those…

It’s Monday and I miss marathon training :(

It’s Monday and I miss marathon training :(

Love/hate It’s probably the craziest thing, but I totally miss marathon training.  It’s a love hate thing. I love the feeling you get after a good run. I love the sense of accomplishment you get when completing a week of good training. I love feeling like I’m working towards a goal — and then meeting that goal? I love how good you sleep after a hard/long run Taking time out of your day to unplug and be by yourself Having…

Thursday things — Running in weird shoes

Thursday things — Running in weird shoes

Last night’s workout was probably my favorite and least favorite all in one.  We had to do our own warm up and then run a mile for a timed trial.  This stresses me out to no end!  I pride myself in being able to sustain a leisurely pace for — like forever!  I sustained the chubby kid shuffle, as I call it, for all 26+ miles of my marathon last year.  I’m perfectly content with it!  Running full throttle, on…

Tired?

Tired?

This week has been just a series of bad nights of sleep — one after another.  It started Monday night; I couldn’t find a comfortable position due to “Post Murph Soreness”.   Memorial Day This Hero Workout was done Monday in honor of Memorial Day and all those who gave their lives for our country.  I heard on the news that morning that of the US population “of age” to serve, less that 1% currently do.  This, to me, shows…

November Plank Challenge

November Plank Challenge

Happy “It’s Almost Christmas” Everyone!!   It’s November 1st, so I can officially begin being annoyed by all things Christmas!  Yay!   Still Struggling I’m still trying to figure out what’s next for me now that I’ve ran a full marathon.  Sunday marked 2 weeks post marathon, so I’m considering running again — but I’m also considering switching to something like Crossfit or more traditional strength training. My main health/fitness goal is to be swift and strong — like a…

3 Things from Yesterday…

3 Things from Yesterday…

Yesterday was one of those days. I was tired.  I was hungry.  My body ached.  My jeans were too tight.   Anyone ever had one of those days?   Thing #1 – Negative Self Talk Yesterday marked exactly 9 days post-marathon.  This also meant that yesterday was exactly 9 days since I’ve run.  A bonus is that yesterday was also the start of my period week! 🙁  Perfect storm of awful, right? My post-marathon plan was to listen to my…

1 Week Post Marathon

1 Week Post Marathon

It’s been 1 week since I completed my first marathon!! That night After running the marathon, I walked to the car, changed my shoes and had a banana.  The drive home was going to take several hours, so I changed my sweaty clothes and reclined in my seat so my feet could rest on the dash.  Boy did that help! Hubby treated me to our favorite drive in — I ordered a hot dog and a cheesesteak since I couldn’t…

Tuesday = recovery

Tuesday = recovery

Tuesday’s Treat day — my treat is RECOVERY!!! Lots of rest and hydrating going on still.  We are about 2 days post marathon now — and I’m still feeling the stiffness, the soreness, and new places that hurt.  Immediately after the marathon, I knew my feet were shredded and my legs were spent… but yesterday my shoulders were hurting and today it’s my feet.  It’s kind of amazing — a constant reminder that I gave the race a huge piece…
