Summer!

Summer!

To all you teachers out there — congrats!  You made it to summer!  (Or you will soon, if you’re not quite out yet). Around here, kiddos are officially done for the school year, and teachers are in the process of cleaning up their rooms for summer time shut down.  University schedules are a bit different, so our kiddos have been out a bit longer.  I’m actually teaching a summer course, so I’ve had my taste of summer and have already…

Thursday things

Thursday things

  Hello!!  Here are some things from my Thursday Hubby lost 8 pounds!! Randomly, my hubby weighs in and sees an 8 pound loss!  How amazing!  The only things we’ve been doing are (1) cooking foods he likes & trying out new recipes and (2) strength training together. To see such a huge weight loss is super encouraging — especially since he wasn’t “really trying”.  Meaning he’s not on a strict diet or weight loss program and he’s not on…

Battling the “I don’t wanna!”

Battling the “I don’t wanna!”

This weird thing happens to me more often that I’m comfortable admitting.  This little voice inside of me starts screaming, “I don’t wanna!” whenever I have any adulting to do.  It takes everything I am to keep moving forward, with the cranky toddler glaring at me with a mean but tiny scrunched up face and tightly crossed arms.   This toddler, which I refer to as “Brat Girl”, often objects to paying bills, completing chores, or working out.  Brat Girl would…

Poor Man’s Prime Rib

Poor Man’s Prime Rib

Found this recipe for “Poor Man’s Prime Rib” and thought I should give it a try. It looked super basic and simple — I’m a lover of “no fuss” recipes, so I figured why not? I made it last night with what I called “garden vegetable hash” or “succotash” knowing full well it’s just a bunch of sautéed veggies.  I used whatever we picked from the garden and cooked them together with some Extra Virgin Olive Oil, salt and pepper….

How to Rock your Car Ride

How to Rock your Car Ride

My dad taught me to love music. Not all music, but good music. Mostly what we would call classic Rock;  rock bands from his adolescence or early adulthood. His favorite bands include Kiss, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Rainbow, Deep Purple, The Who, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the “Holy Trinity” Rush. In the past he’s been known to enjoy Offspring, but I’m not sure of this is still on his hits list. I can’t remember ever riding in the car with…

Thirst-day!!

Thirst-day!!

Ha!  Get it?? Thirst day?? Tee hee!!  ^_^ My focus today is hydration of course! I’ll be doing some research into race day hydration as well as sharing what I plan for my own liquid needs. Here’s what I plan to drink today: Water!!  Lots of ice and water — this adorable Mason jar jug is a 32 ounce double wall insulated vessel. I downed one of these with my chocolate Pb oatmeal this morning and will have another two before…

Eight weeks of rewards

Eight weeks of rewards

After yesterday’s treat day, I went to sleep feeling fully spoiled and content. Small indulgences (not having to cook lunch, Starbucks, pie) really added up to a great day!! My morning run today reflected it!  I felt relaxed and kept a slow steady pace. I was able to push it at the end without feeling exhausted.  What a difference a day made! Monday’s run was agony and I ended up stopping to walk a few steps during it. Today’s run…

Tuesday = Treat Day!!

Tuesday = Treat Day!!

Tuesday’s motto – treat yo self!!! Had lunch at work, which is sometimes difficult since you’re at the mercy of someone else’s cooking! Luckily, the cafeteria gods smiled on me and my gorgeous plate! Feast your eyes on chicken breast, steamed broccoli, and rice pilaf!  So yummy!!! Then, as a mid day treat, we swung by Starbucks for an unsweetened passion tango tea — the biggest one the baristas could give me.  Isn’t it gorgeous!! I was able to work…

Thankful for Little things

Thankful for Little things

Quick post about three little things I’m thankful for. 1.  How excited I get to see a new Runner’s World Magazine in my mailbox! 2.  Straws that are wide enough to drink my Protein Lattes from.  This one never gets clogged, even with big ice chunks! 3.  This Ipad Mini Case.  I love my ipad mini (so obsessed)… and this little case helps protect it from drops/scratches AND props it up like a little kick-stand! What are you thankful for?…

Ezekiel Toast!

Ezekiel Toast!

Behold… my beautiful breakfast.  It’s sweet, savory, and crunchy!  The best part — it’s kinda good for me!   It’s one slice of Ezekiel Bread with almond butter, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, and the tiniest bit of honey!  It’s so good!! Here’s my meal plan for the rest of the day: Breakfast — Ezekiel toast + Protein Latte (I make a protein shake with 1 scoop vanilla powder and coffee instead of water) Snack 1 — Hard Boiled Eggs (2) and…
