Macros while on Vacay?

Macros while on Vacay?

Vacations tend to go one of two ways with me.  I’m either hypervigilant with my eating — having a plan, taking time to track calories, and making sure to have healthy alternatives on hand wherever I am.  OR I’m wild and free.  In the latter case, I eat what I want to eat, when I want to eat, until I feel like I’ve had enough.  Some would call these types of days “cheat days” — but I call them “refuel”…

Hope you’re all taking some time out to celebrate today 😀   5 days — Macro Counting My goal this week is to have 5 consecutive days of being right on target with my 40-30-30 macros.  I’ve been hitting and missing sporadically, so I planned this goal to strive for consistency!  I’m keeping in my the 4 things I’ve learned while Counting Macros — and the 10% grace… so that I can live!  Other…

Stepping up!

Stepping up!

Yesterday, I stumbled onto this Nerd Fitness article — thanks Steve Kamb!  It’s called “Why You’re Not in Shape (Yet)” and I’m so glad I read it. In it, Steve discusses how he surveyed 10,000 people to probe the reasons why they feel they aren’t in shape yet or why they achieved success with their health and fitness goals.  This one part hit me right in the face:   If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you’ve seen…

4 things I’ve learned while Counting Macros

4 things I’ve learned while Counting Macros

As I wrote in my post about Flexible Dieting, I’ve been dabbling with macro targets recently.  It’s a much higher learning curve than I initially anticipated.  Originally I was all like, “Cool, no big deal, just eat ____g protein, ____g fat, and ____ carbs.  Easy!”  Oh boy… is it not.   Here are 4 things I’ve learned so far: (1.)  Think of most foods as a combination of macros — not a single macro Chicken is a protein.  Oatmeal is…

Impending Trips?

Impending Trips?

Does anyone else stress themselves out about upcoming events?  I DO!  I can worry myself into a fit if I’m not careful!  My hubby and I call this catastrophizing – worrying about all the “what if’s” that could happen if worst came to worst.  I have a trip coming up in about two weeks and I’m really trying to avoid thinking about it if at all possible.  If I can, I will avoid putting any energy towards negative thinking until…

Friday favorites.

Friday favorites.

Naps are my favorite.  My absolutely favorite thing.  But like all great loves of my life, they are sometimes hard to come by. Hard to get if you will.  I will have a nap today… or tomorrow… or someday!

IIFYM – Flexible Dieting

IIFYM – Flexible Dieting

Ever since training for my marathon, I’ve really felt the need to fuel my body for my goals.  In the past, I’ve focused on the scale and on points (weight watchers).  This left me pretty much obsessed with food — when will I eat next?  How much can I eat?  What recipes/foods/products let me eat the most for the fewest points?  Basically, food was all I thought about.  I started gaming the system — tweaking the serving size until my…

Deadlifts and Double Unders

Deadlifts and Double Unders

Deadlifts Some days in the gym are a real struggle for me — but then others, like last night, are such a thrill! Last night we worked on Deadlifts and tried to find a new PR (Personal Record).  Our coach gave us around 30 minutes and there were a big handful of us all working on it.  Very quickly, we noticed that if all of us work independently, we’ll run out of plates!  So we decided to team up.  First,…

17.3

17.3

This week’s workout was Crossfit Open 17.3 — it was a good one! It was a snatch workout — different weights with 3 rounds at each weight.  The heavier the weights got, the fewer reps you’d do in each round.  To alternate, jumping chin-over-bar pullups were thrown in.   It was so fun! and HARD!   I didn’t earn any “Bonus time” — so in 8 mins I did as many of the chin over bars and snatches as I…

17.2 was all about those Pull Ups

17.2 was all about those Pull Ups

Can I do them? no.   Well I can manage with assistance from little rubber bands that make it so I’m not having to pull up my entire body weight.  I can also do what’s called a jumping chin over bar pull up.  This is where the pullup bar is lowered to about 6 inches above my head… and I squat down and really jump myself up over the bar.  It’s still an upper body workout — since the last…
